MORE ABOUT OUR FORGE

What Is Misty Mountain Forge?

Nestled into the hills of Vermont, Misty Mountain Forge sits by the Ottauquechee River. Before electricity, water power was one of the only ways people could power mills and shops. Littered through the Vermont forests along the river you can find many foundations of what used to be mills and wheat grinding houses. The three main walls of the blacksmith shop are comprised of river bed flagstones. Laid by Judson Dunne, the mossy dry-laid stone walls have stood the test of time. While originally a coal forge, Misty Mountain Forge has moved to propane-based fuel. Cutting out the smoke and the danger of setting the shop on fire, we have modernized the still very traditional art of blacksmithing.
