YOUR BLACKSMITH
Judson Dunne has always been fascinated by moving metal with his own hands. Even at a young age, he would build foundries to melt down aluminum cans. He even dabbled in making ARC furnaces with parts from microwaves and making dangerously high voltage Tesla coils, all before the age of ten. When he was fourteen, he saw a video on blacksmithing and instantly fell in love. After reversing the polarity of his father's shop vac to blow air into a straight pipe that was under a bed of coals, Judson had built his first Forge and was well on his way to becoming a blacksmith. After years of practicing and technique building, Judson is ready to add an authentic and rustic feel to your home.
OUR FORGE
The History
Nestled into the hills of Vermont, Misty Mountain Forge sits by the Ottauquechee River. Before electricity, water power was one of the only ways people could power mills and shops. Littered through the Vermont forests along the river you can find many foundations of what used to be mills and wheat grinding houses. The three main walls of the blacksmith shop are comprised of river bed flagstones. Laid by Judson Dunne, the mossy dry-laid stone walls have stood the test of time. While originally a coal forge, Misty Mountain Forge has moved to propane-based fuel. Cutting out the smoke and the danger of setting the shop on fire, we have modernized the still very traditional art of blacksmithing.
